What the terms actually say

Section 9 — Rights in User Content

you grant REI a nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, irrevocable, transferable, and fully sublicensable right to use... such User Content... for any purpose

REI claims a permanent, unchangeable right to use anything you post for any purpose, forever.

Introduction

If REI makes changes to these Terms, we will provide you with notice of such changes, such as by sending an email, posting a notice on our Sites or updating the date at the top of these Terms.

REI promises to notify you when they update their terms.

Section 19 — Termination

You may terminate the Terms at any time by closing your account, discontinuing your use of the Sites and providing REI with a notice of termination.

You have a clear, self-serve path to terminate your account and the agreement.

Section 14 — Indemnification

you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless REI... from and against any claims... arising out of or related to... your access to and use or misuse of the Sites

You are financially responsible for REI's legal costs if your use of the site results in a third-party claim.

Section 16 — Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE REI PARTIES BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES... EXCEED THE GREATER OF USD $50.00 OR ANY COMPENSATION YOU PAY

REI limits their financial liability to you to a maximum of $50 or what you paid them.
