What the terms actually say

Section 12 — Legal Disputes

You hereby agree to resolve all disputes through binding individual arbitration, which means that you waive any right to have those disputes decided by a judge or jury, and that you waive your right to participate in class actions.

You are prohibited from suing the company in court or joining a class action lawsuit, forcing all disputes into private arbitration.

Section 2 — Licensing Agreements

By posting any Content on the Sites, however, you expressly grant... to GIZMODO a royalty-free, sublicensable, transferable, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide license to use... all such Content and your name, voice, and/or likeness.

The company claims a permanent, non-revocable right to use your content and likeness for any commercial purpose, even after you leave.

Section 13 — Statute of Limitations

any claim or cause of action arising out of or related to use of the Sites, Terms or Privacy Policy must be filed within one (1) year after such claim or cause of action arose or be forever barred.

You have only one year to bring a legal claim, which is significantly shorter than most standard statutory limits.

Section 14 — Notification of Changes

Whenever we change our Terms, we will post those changes to this Terms of Service page... By continuing to use the Sites, you agree and accept the changes.

The company does not commit to notifying you of changes; you are expected to check the page yourself, and continued use constitutes acceptance.

Section 8 — Termination of Agreement

You may discontinue your use of the Sites at any time without informing us.

You have the right to stop using the service whenever you want without needing to go through a complex cancellation process.
