USPS Terms Scorecard

Grade A — Highly protective (score 93/100)

The USPS site terms cap damages at whatever you paid for access - effectively $0 for a free site. Otherwise the policy avoids arbitration, data selling, and dark-pattern cancellation.

Liability cap could leave users with no recovery. Otherwise balanced terms.

What the terms actually say

Liability Limitation

In no event shall the Postal Service's liability to a user for any loss, damage or claim exceed the amount paid by the user for accessing this site.

If the USPS website harms you, the most they could owe is what you paid to use it - which for a free site means zero dollars.

User Submissions

users grant the Postal Service permission to use any information, suggestions, ideas, drawings or concepts communicated for any purpose the Postal Service chooses, commercial, public or otherwise, without compensation whatsoever.

If you send USPS ideas or feedback, they can use them for any commercial purpose without paying you.

Termination

You may terminate this agreement at any time by discontinuing your use of the Postal Service site and destroying all materials obtained from it.

You can end this agreement at any time simply by stopping use of the site.

Third-Party Links

The Postal Service offers links to, and listings of, various third-party Web sites for the convenience of its customers... the use of any such link is strictly at the user's own risk.

USPS links to other websites but is not responsible for what happens on those sites.
